Major Home Renovation Progress

It suddenly feels like every tradesman in town had time to work on our home! After months of waiting, delays, excuses and bad weather … 10 guys were working at the house ON THE SAME DAY! Finally the construction part of this renovation is moving really fast, which makes me very happy as we are that much closer to decorating! Even with all the delays of the past year we have made SOOOO much progress and this house we bought is really starting to feel like a home!

WE HAVE SHEETROCK … on the walls!

It took them three days to hang all the sheetrock throughout the house and they said the whole process should take about 10 days - hang, tape & float. We choose to do a ‘Level 5’ float throughout the living room, dining and kitchen because it gets loads of light and I want it to have a nice texture. The rest of the house will be floated and paint ready!

REBUILDING Our Front Porch

The framers were back out to continue work on the front porch! When we bought the house we knew the porch was in really bad shape and had to be completely rebuilt. We demolished the original porch, rebuilt a new foundation and raised the roof as high as it could go. The next step is to add the metal roof and install the composite decking!

BUILDING Our Fireplace

One of the scariest things to demo out of the original 110-year-old house was the old brick chimneys. We found 3 up in the attic that must have been sealed up years ago. It was a lot of weight to just sit up there so we knocked them down and I designed a new fireplace on the south side of the cottage.

I think it adds balance to the shape of the house and we are going to add over-grouted limestone rock to the exterior to pay homage to the limestone in the area. They are actually starting to rock the fireplace next week so stay tuned!
